For
the sake of argument, I draw an imaginary line from Boston to Bristol,
south of which lies southern England.

Many
of the pictures shown here feature the Seven Sisters, taken either at
Birling Gap or at the mouth of the Cuckmere river. They were shot during
a particularly fine week between Christmas and New Year's day. This
is indeed the best time of year for these cliffs, as they face south.
It is only in winter that the rising and setting sun illuminate them;
their very whiteness ensures that they reflect not only the rays of
the nascent and dying sun, but also the little light there is before
and after the sun rises or sets. It is this light that imparts the striking
pink glow in these pictures.
I am
grateful photography can intensify this delicate hue using long exposures.
The processed slides reveal a world that was only hinted at during my
actual visit - this second "visit" renews and increases my
enjoyment of Nature's
wonders.
